Nicola Goldsmith is a clinical specialist hand therapist who has been working in the field of trauma, orthopaedics, plastics and rheumatology since 1991. She has many years’ experience leading teams of hand therapists and setting up services for large private hospital groups where she set all the clinical standards and provided teaching and leadership.
Nicola has specific expertise in the management of complex hand problems, arthritis and following trauma such as finger and wrist fractures
Nicola has a special interest in working with musicians with problems affecting the hand and upper limb.
Nicola works with many amateur and professional musicians and has lectured on this subject in Japan, Austria, Italy and Spain. She teaches a course on Injury Prevention and Awareness for the harp department at the Royal Academy of Music every academic year. Nicola addresses both the physical and the mental challenges of pain, injury and disorders which affect play. Each instrument has specific demands and seeing a hand therapist with specialist knowledge and experience should give the musician the confidence that their specific needs will be met.
Nicola is registered with BAPAM as a recommended practitioner.
Nicola is a partner in NES Hand Therapy Training, the most prominent hand therapy teaching company in the UK having delivered over 200 courses both in the UK and abroad.
Nicola completed her MSc in 1997, is registered with the HCPC and a member of the British Association of Hand Therapists.
Other roles have included President of the International Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy (2019 – 2022), Project lead in Hand in Hand with Ukraine (an initiative to support the development of rehabilitation for hand injuries during the war) and as Clinical Ambassador for Performance Health.
